Borpathar Police Thwart Rhino Poaching Attempt

Police Foil Attempted Rhino Poaching

Police in Borpathar, in eastern Karbi Anglong, successfully foiled an attempted rhino poaching this week. They arrested a group of poachers operating close to Kagiranga national park in Japralangso Tingbasti.

Local police said they received intelligence about the presence of three members of surrendered ultra organization AANLA (All Adavasi National Liberation Army) hiding in the Japralangso Tingbasti village. The ultras were reported to have arms and ammunition they were using to poaching rhino.

Based on the intelligence received, police raided the hideout and arrested the three ultras without much resistance.

Police identified the three men as Anil Mahato (34), Arun Mahato (32) and Tapon Munda (30). All three were previously cadres of AANLA. A 7.62 mm pistol, 15 AK series bullets, 20 SLR bullets were seized by police at the location.
