Assam Minister Announces New Scheme for The Poor

An Assam minister has announced a new scheme for poor people in his wife’s name.

Assam Public Health Engineering (PHE) department minister Gautam Roy has announced a new scheme called Mandira Awas Yojana (MAY) following to the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY), which scheme was implemented by union government across the country for Below Poverty Line (BPL) people.

Last week, the minister had announced the new scheme in a public meeting held in Algapur constituency in Barak valley in his newly elected MLA wife name Mandira Roy.

Mandira Roy, wife of Gautam Roy, was recently elected to the Assam legislative assembly from Algapur constituency in the by-poll held in this year.

“Most of BPL beneficiaries of the constituency had missed out benefits from IAY scheme. The Mandira Awas Yojana (MAY) will target those beneficiaries,” the Assam minister said.

They will build houses for BPL families under the new scheme, Gautam Roy said.
