9 Abducted Labourers Released in Assam

Guwahati, 12 April: Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT)released nine abducted labourers after six days captivity in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Thursday, police said.

The labourers were abducted by the militant group at gunpoint from a construction site near Rongbong Ghat under Santipur police station in the hills district on April 5.

A large number of labourers had been working on the construction of a government hospital building at Rongbong Ghat, in the hills district. On Thursday night, an armed group assaulted the labourers and took away nine of the 27 working there, according to local police.

After that incident, security forces launched a search operation in the area to trace the abducted labourers.

Recently, the militant group have collected crores of rupees from some government officials through extortion in the district, a highly placed source said.

KPLT is active in Karbi Anglong and some parts of Nagaon and Golaghat district also.
