4 Militants Killed in Fresh Gunfight in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 1: On Saturday the Army said four heavily armed militants were killed in a two-day long gunbattle in Indian administered Kashmir.

An army spokesman said army men intercepted a batch of militants yesterday while it was trying to sneak into Kashmir from Sanginaar, Keran sector of Kupwara in North Kashmir. “The militants were challenged and they opened fire from automatic weapons towards the army men. The fire was returned by the soldiers, triggering an encounter,” he said.

“In the fierce gunfight, which continued till this evening, four militants were killed. “The army men did not suffer any casualties or injuries during the firefight,” he said.

The spokesman said the operation was concluded after bodies of all the four militants were retrieved from the encounter spot. “The identity of the slain militants and the outfit to which they owe allegiance was being ascertained,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier this week five militants, two army men including an official and two policemen were killed during a four-day long gunfight in Kupwara.
