2 Boys Die in Kashmir Explosion

Srinagar, July 10: Two teenage boys were killed and two others including a minor girl were injured seriously when a live shell they were fiddling with exploded in Indian administered Kashmir on Sunday.

Police sources said some boys were fiddling with an explosive device at Ratsuna village in Tral, some 40 kms south of Srinagar this afternoon. “During this process, the explosive device went off with a big bang, causing injuries to two boys, a minor girl and a youth,” they said.

They said the injured were rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared two of them dead upon arrival. The deceased were identified as Obaid Yusuf Lone, 13 and Adil Ahamd Teli, 17.

The injured have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Lone, 32, and a minor girl whose identity could not be ascertained so far.

A senior police officer Mohammad Irshad said the injured person told police that some youths had kept the device in the house where it exploded.

He said police is ascertaining the nature of the explosion. “Further investigations are going on,” he added.

Irshad claimed that Mohammad Yousuf Lone (owner of the house where the blast took place) is a known groundworker of the militant outfit.

It is pertinent to mention here that February 13 this year, three children died at Maloora on the city outskirts, when an unexploded shell they were fiddling with, suddenly went off. The shell, according to locals, was left in the debris after an encounter between militants and troopers.
