Mahomed Khan, a Courageous Muslim

The King Fahd Mosque in Culver City, Los Angeles country California, is owned and operated by The Islamic Foundation of Shaikh Ibn Taimmiyyah and the entire project was guided by Director General, Dr. Khalil Al Khalil.

In 2016 I first met Mahomed Akbar Khan, then the Director of Interfaith Programs at the King Fahd Mosque, and nowadays the former director of this interfaith post. Mahomed Khan is no longer working at the King Fahd Mosque.

Since our first introduction meeting I have met with Mr. Khan several times. His demeanor and presence are impressive. He has vision. “Not everyone has the same vision,” he says in his soft voice.

There are not too many courageous Muslims to have dared taking as gallant a step as Mahomed did.

While visiting Southern California, in February 2017, under the auspices of the Consul General of Israel and the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Mr. Khan arranged to host, at the King Fahd Mosque, Simcha and Leah Goldin, the parents of IDF soldier Hadar Goldin.

Hadar Goldin was killed during a ceasefire agreed upon by Hamas and Israel, during the 2014 Israeli-Gaza Protective Edge conflict. His body is still being held captive by Hamas.

The mosque’s director said that preventing Hadar’s body from returning to Israel is a major sin in Islam. The peace-seeking Khan told me that according to Islam, when a person passes away or is killed, the body has to return to the ground as soon as possible. And that way the soul returns back home to the creator.

However, it is a major sin in Islam if you prevent that from taking place. He said “God owns us all; God owns your son’s soul [Hadar] and God wants that soul to come home to him.”

Apparently, Hamas is not doing Islam and God’s work. Rather, Hamas is doing terror work in the name of their own interpretation of Islam,

Having Hadar Goldin’s parents at the mosque was a pure humanitarian gesture by Mr. Khan who is intensely involved in making the world more peaceful. He meant to help bring about a possible healing process. With the Goldin couple’s visit, Mr. Khan initiated the King Fahd Mosque as a Muslim human rights leader.

I do not know the employment policy of the King Fahd Mosque. But to let go of such a human rights leader as Mahomed Khan is no feather in anyone’s cap.
