Crossfire War – JERUSALEM WATCH – West Asia Theatre: Jerusalem/Beirut – Damascus – Tehran; Israel Air Force (IAF) Stages Mock Air Raids on Hezbollah Position in S. Lebanon – IAF Flights Over Rest of Lebanon – Lebanese Army Fires Anti-Aircraft Artillery – UN Envoy States Hezbollah Engaged in Arms Smuggling with Syria

Night Watch: BEIRUT – AP reports that United Nations envoy Terje Roed-Larsen told the Security Council that the Lebanese government reported that Hezbollah is actively engaged in arms smuggling with support from Syria. Hours later Israel Air Force (IAF) jets conducted a mock raid on Hezbollah positions in south Lebanon and also made overflights in the rest of the country, including areas of south Beirut. The Lebanese army stated their units fired anti-aircraft artillery at the planes. The flights were staged just hours before Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah was to appear on Lebanese television. Perhaps Jerusalem wanted to affect the tone of his discussion. [ASHARQALAWSAT]

This is the most obvious indication of how immediate the next wave of war around Israel is. Jerusalem is definitely saying they will not let Hezbollah attack first and it is also a serious offensive message to Damascus-Tehran, the capitals that arm Hezbollah. Lebanese security officials and witnesses said eight aircraft entered Lebanon’s airspace then dispersed. Four planes flew over the towns of Nabatiyeh and Tyre in south Lebanon, on the Mediterranean and the remainder flew over south Beirut and the rest of the country.

During the 34 day war in July – August, neighborhoods in south Beirut were bombed heavily because that is where Hezbollah maintained their offices. Apartments there were also used to house Iranian technicians whenever they were in Lebanon to train Hezbollah in the operation of their more advanced weapons like cruise missiles and their longer range rockets.
