Scotland Celebrates St. Andrew’s Day

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton today sent her best wishes to the people of Scotland as they celebrate St. Andrew’s Day.

St Andrew’s Day is the feast day of Saint Andrew and it is celebrated every 30th of November. Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland. St Andrew’s Day is Scotland’s official national day, according to Wikipedia.

Ms. Clinton said in Caledonian Societies and Scottish clubs from New York to Chicago, across America and the world, people of Scottish origin will be celebrating with the Scottish people.

“The United States has been enriched by Scottish influences since its founding. For more than two centuries, we have enjoyed strong ties of kinship, commerce, culture and discovery.” -Ms. Clinton

She stressed that United States is proud to count many of its Founding Fathers among the trail-blazing Scottish-Americans who have helped shape her country.

“From Andrew Carnegie and Alexander Graham Bell to David Dunbar Buick and Ginger Rogers, Scottish-Americans have strengthened our bonds of friendship and cooperation.” -Ms. Clinton

She stressed both countries are working together to develop scientific breakthroughs, promote business, encourage energy security and expand educational opportunities.

“As you celebrate this special day, know that the United States is a partner and friend. I wish the people of Scotland and those of Scottish descent around the world a happy St. Andrew’s Day celebration.” -Ms. Clinton

The feast day is celebrated as “St Andrew’s Night”) in Germany.
