Photo Story: If Only Each Grave Could Talk

A row of graves

My visit to Warsaw, Poland, Jewish cemetery, June 19th, 2016. If each grave could talk, what terrible stories it could tell.

In 1000 years, one millennia, the Polish Jews grew into a huge community of 3 million people and along with it built a rich culture that had a profound impact on Poland’s history. When Hitler’s Nazi forces marched into Poland, on September 1st 1939, and occupied the land, they systematically wiped out the entire Polish-Jews population. And with that, 1000 years of Poland’s Jewish history was wiped out by the German Nazis.

Walking though the huge Jewish cemetery in Warsaw is eerie. If only the graves could tell the story of what was and what is. There are more graves there than Jews living in Poland now.

If only each grave could talk and tell us their story.
