US and Russia Collaborating to Eliminate Syria’s Chemical Weapons?

As the world continues to wait for the international community to respond to Syrian crisis, the United States of America and Russia finally agreed to work together to end the hostilities of the Assad regime.

In his remarks with with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Geneva in Switzerland, US Secretary of State John Kerry says US and Russia had series of disagreements about the situation in Syria.

However, Secretary Kerry says what’s important in Geneva that both countries agree that on August 21st Syrian men, women, and children died grotesque deaths due to chemical weapons.

“We agree that no one anywhere at any time should employ chemical weapons.” – Secretary Kerry

US and Russia agree to curb the use of chemical weapons

According to Secretary Kerry, both countries are joining together with the international community to eliminate stockpiles of these weapons in Syria would be an historic moment for the multilateral nonproliferation efforts.

“We agree on those things.” – Secretary Kerry

Both countries agree that it would help to save lives if both parties could accomplish this, that it would reduce the threat to the region, that it would uphold the norm that was established in Geneva almost a century ago.

In addition, the collaboration would achieve the best of their aspirations for curbing weapons of mass destruction.

US and Russia concerned about the death tool in Syria

Secretary Kerry also reiterates that both countries are deeply concerned about the death toll and destruction, the acts on both sides, all sides that are creating more and more refugees, more and more of the humanitarian catastrophe.

He says both countries are committed to try to work together, beginning with this initiative on the chemical weapons, in hopes that those efforts could pay off and bring peace and stability to a war-torn part of the world.

Kerry: Use of chemical weapons is unacceptable

Secretary Kerry relates that one year ago, President Obama and President Putin directed high-level experts in our governments, both of our governments, to work together to prepare contingencies involving Syria’s chemical weapons.

He says both President Putin and President Obama thought it would be worthwhile for both countries to work together to determine if there is life in this concept.

And, this challenge obviously took on grave urgency on August 21st when the Syrian regime used chemical weapons in a massive and indiscriminate way against its own citizens, Secretary Kerry added.

He says President Obama and dozens of its partners believe that that action is unacceptable.

“We have in no uncertain terms made it clear that we cannot allow that to happen again.” – Secretary Kerry

Syrian regime found guilty of using chemical weapons

The US revealed that through blood and hair samples that have come discovered through an appropriate chain of custody from east Damascus, from first responders, it has tested positive for signatures of sarin.

US believed that the regime ordered this attack in August 21, many know they prepared for it, many know where the rockets came from, many know where they landed.

Reports sat at least 1,300 people have been killed in a nerve gas attack on Syria’s Ghouta region in August 21.
