Ms. Clinton said she visited Montego Bay in June for a high-level U.S.-Caribbean meeting. She said she was fortunate to experience Jamaica’s well-known warmth and hospitality. She added that during that visit, she was reminded of the strong historical ties between our two countries. She highlighted that Americans of Jamaican descent have contributed so much to our country and the world.

“On this anniversary of your independence, we honor all Jamaicans, and celebrate the vibrant friendship between our countries.” -Ms. Clinton

Jamaica is a small nation. Jamaican culture has a strong global presence. The musical genres reggae, ska, mento, rocksteady, dub, and ragga all originated in the island’s vibrant, popular urban recording industry.
