7 Facts About The Attack on Camp Liberty

Here is what is now known, according to a report by the Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran:

  1. The decision for the missile attack was made by Khamenei as a reaction to the transfer process of Camp Liberty’s PMOI residents out of Iraq. The aim of the attack was to inflict as many casualties as possible on the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Qasem Soleimani, Commander of the terrorist Qods Force, and his deputy IRGC Brigadier General Eraj Masjedei handed the mission to the militias in Iraq.
  2. 50 missiles were fired. They were 240mm Falaq-1 missiles, manufactured by IRGC Industries. Each missile weighs 111 kg and carries a 50 kg explosive payload. The Falaq-1 is a solid-fuel two-stage missile. It has a range of 10 km.

  4. The missiles were launched from the Aqarqouf area, five kilometers northwest of Camp Liberty. The militias deployed in Abu Ghoraib or areas in the vicinity of Baghdad Airport facilitated movement of the flatbed truck to the launch site. The truck passed through a number of checkpoints.
  5. The missile launch was initiated at 8:35 pm local time. Some missiles landed inside Camp Liberty and a number of them hit areas outside the Camp. Areas outside the Camp that suffered damage included al-Iraqiya village.
  6. In this criminal attack, large sections of Camp Liberty were engulfed in fire and destroyed. Property belonging to many Camp Liberty residents was destroyed or rendered useless. The damaged property included 116 containers, a mess hall, and other facilities. More than 1000 evaporative-water-coolers, AC units, AC split units, refrigerators and freezers, washing machines, many types of electric devices, computers, printers and other equipment belonging to residents were destroyed.
