US and China Strengthen Bilateral Relationships

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton today met Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi at Bali, Indonesia. The meeting aims to strengthen their country’s bilateral ties.

“Well, it is a pleasure to see you again, and to see you here at this important meeting. We have much to discuss when it comes to our bilateral relationship, as well as regional and global issues.” -Ms. Clinton

She stated that both countries will review the progress that they have made since the excellent meeting that theri presidents held during President Hu Jintao’s visit to Washington.

Ms. Clinton said the meeting will also give them a chance to review the work they did at the strategic and economic dialogue that furthered their cooperation in a number of critical areas.

“And I want to commend China and ASEAN for working so closely together to include implementation guidelines for the declaration of conduct in the South China Sea.” -Ms. Clinton

She highlighted that they will discuss their mutual desire for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula during their meeting.
