Rodrigo Duterte Set to Dominate Philippine Presidential Race

Philippine Presidential Race is One-Day Away

On May 9, Philippines will make headlines as Filipinos vote for the next leader who will accelerate the Asia-Pacific nation’s path to economic prosperity. But who is gaining popularity in latest poll survey? Rodrigo Duterte is placed to win the Philippine Presidential Race.

‘Kill them’ Rodrigo Duterte is making a stage, gaining popularity as more Filipinos now are looking for big change. A majority of Filipinos consider Rodrigo Duterte the best candidate to curb the graft and corruption and crimes that are gripping the Asian country.

‘The Punisher’ Rodrigo Duterte Dominates the Poll

According to the latest pre-election poll by the Social Weather Stations (SWS), Duterte dominates the poll and holds a wide lead over his rivals.

SWS reveals Duterte dominates the poll as 33 percent of the respondents in the nationwide survey conducted May 1 to 3 said they would vote for Duterte as president. Asia’s Trump leads 11 percentage points ahead of his strongest opponent, political newcomer Senator Grace Poe.

Mar Roxas II, an ex-interior and transportation secretary, who is highly endorsed by President Benigno Aquino III, comes third. 19% of respondents said they would choose Roxas, the grandson of former Philippine President Manuel Roxas.

Vice President Jejomar Binay, who resigned from his position last June, comes fourth, based on the SWS survey. Only 14% of respondents said they would vote for the pro-poor candidate.

SWS surveys reveals Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, popularly known as the ‘Iron Lady of Asia’ gained the last spot in the survey. She attracted only 2% of the respondents saying they will vote for her as the next president of the Philippines.

It will be a 5-way presidential race on Monday, May 9, among front runner Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Grace Poe, former interior secretary Manuel Roxas II, Vice President Jejomar Binay, and Miriam Santiago.

From a Filipino Perspective

With the advent of social media, Filipinos are updated with what is happening in the political arena particularly with the incoming election. Interestingly, Filipinos have become active participants and advocates for change. Most Filipinos are looking for a visionary leader with a heart to help the poor, and who once and for all can eradicate graft and corruption, to make Philippines drug-free and a safer place to live.

The Philippine Presidential Race will decide many things. Will it be more of the same or will there be major changes? Filipinos will discover that in the next day.

This incoming election will reflect the voice of the majority and the values of Filipinos. Whoever wins, expect change to happen and the nation will raise its name from Asia’s “sick man” to “strong man.”
