At least 39 people were killed in Nairobi’s shopping mall in Kenya as unidentified gunmen stormed the place.
Reports say the attack had killed close relatives of Kenya’s president and children.
Many reportedly claimed that the attack was orchestrated by the heavily armed Somali Islamist group al Shabaab.
Reports say the massacre aimed to target Westerner shoppers.
Al Shabaab has links to al Qaeda and is opposing Kenyan and other African peacekeepers in Somalia.
Reports say the assault was one of the biggest attack in Kenya since al Qaeda bombed the U.S. embassy in Nairobi in 1998 which killed more than 200 people..
US Condemns the attack
The United States of America today expressed condemnation of the massacre in Nairobi.
In his statement at Washington DC, US Secretary of State says the attacks is heartbreaking reminder that there exists unspeakable evil in the = world which can destroy life in a senseless instant.
“I want to express my deepest condolences – and the condolences of our entire nation – to the families and friends of the victims in Nairobi today.” -Secretary Kerry
He reports that while the casualty count is still to be determined, there are at least 30 innocent men, women, and children dead and 60 injured, including several American citizens.
The US has offered its assistance to the Government of Kenya and stand ready to help in any way we can.
The Notorious Al-shabaab
Al-Shabaab militants are infamous for deliberately
blocking the delivery of food assistance in an area of south central Somalia which is under direct or indirect control of al-Shabaab.
Al-Shabaab militant group has been compared with the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan because of its opinions and beliefs.
