A Missile Kills 30 Somali Refugees In Yemen

A missile killed more than 30 Somali refugees in a convoy. They were travelling to the port city of Aden from their camp on Sunday, according to Osman Ahmed, the Somali Consul to Yemen, who is based in the Somali port town of Aden.

There were conflicting reports about the source of the missile that caused the tragedy.

“Two buses opted to use another route instead of the main road and they were caught by some forces; moments after a missile struck them and it is unknown whether it was an airstrike or fired from the sea,” Osman Ahmed said in an interview with the VOA Somali service.

The dead included women and children who were trying to escape the violence by leaving in boats.

The attack highlights the risk of worsening civilian casualties in what is becoming a full scale civil-war.

This incident killed the most Somali citizens since the launch of the coalition operation.

Some people were very fortunate to have already left the area. They used speedboats and ferries to take them across the Gulf of Aden to Somalia and other neighboring countries. Unfortunately, the refugee camps in those other countries are already full.

The Somali federal government has not yet implemented its pledges to evacuate their citizens in Yemen.
