The Newsblaze Predictions started out well for me (with a 100% record in the opening days) then they went slightly askew with very few coming in during the latter part of the second games. The overall prediction for France to go out in the Group stage held up, but I also said Italy would get 7 points – only to see the reigning champions crash and burn.
Needless to say the shocks should be over now. The teams have all played enough times in this competition for us to get to know them and to know their approach to this World Cup. Considering that, here are a pick of my best bets for the Knockout stage:
Final 16
The first knockout round began today and as I write this Uruguay are already through and I am awaiting a result in the USA/Ghana game. But the tastiest games have yet to come.
Don’t forget, any Draws in the Knockout stage will result in the game going to extra time and penalties, so if you are betting on a team to win the game, be sure to bet on them to ‘Qualify’ as a ‘win’ will just constitute the ninety minutes.
Beginning tomorrow – Sunday – I think England will overcome Germany in a very tough game, whilst Argentina, hot favorites to win, will struggle against an equally styled Mexican team. The Netherlands should find it easy against Slovakia on Monday but Slovakia won’t go down without a fight as they proved against Italy. I think the Netherlands will score a few but can’t see them winning this to nil, so get your money on the bet of 3.5+ Goals which is currently trading at a tasty 7/2.
Also on Monday is Brazil vs Chile. I have admired and enjoyed Chile in this competition but they destroyed their team against Spain and are looking at a few suspensions. They will be short and when you’re up against Brazil you need all the help you can get. Take Brazil to win by two or more goals here (Brazil -1), priced nicely at 6/4. Alternatively, put Brazil into a multiple along with Paraguay (to beat Japan) and get a good return of Pounds 43 for your 10 Pound bet.
The final game is a tough one between Spain and Portugal. Spain are the favorites but I think they may have to do it in Extra-Time or penalties as this will be a hard-fought game. So take a look at the 2/1 on offer for the Draw.
To Win It All
As for the full bets, it is an awkward time to tip them with some crunch matches coming up, but I will give it a go.
I fancied Spain and England to be the two strongest teams before the tournament, and although both expressed something to be worried about in their Groups, I still stand by this. After seeing Spain’s display against Switzerland and their luck against Chile I think England will stand a better chance though. They also have the ability to overcome Brazil, and Argentina so I will tip England for the World Cup win. You can get odds of 10/1.
