World Cup: Australia 1-1 Ghana. Ten Men Aussies Hold Out Against Wasteful Ghana

Ghana had a great chance to qualify this afternoon when playing Australia who played with ten men for most of the game, but the Ghanians could only manage a Draw which just pushed them to the top of the table.

Holman struck first for Australia to add more drama and potential to a Group which has already had it’s fair share, but with twenty-five minutes gone Harry Kewell was sent off for a handball on the line and Gyan converted from the resulting penalty.

After that it looked like Australia’s day – and tournament – was over, but the Aussies kept their cool. The game could have still gone either way and the ten men Aussies came close to taking the lead on a number of occasions, with Ghana also having their fair share of chances.

Ghana will see this as an opportunity wasted but this was a great performance from Australia who many had written off after their 4-0 defeat to Germany.

This competition continues to throw up shock results but if you are the one predicting them then you will have nothing to argue with and should have full pockets by now.
