Weekend Premiership Preview: Predictions and Summaries

soccer

Predictions for all of this weekends Premiership football.

After some successful and profitable tips on the FA Cup and Champions League I thought I would try my hand at predicting the weekend Premiership games.

Big Matches:

Chelsea v Manchester City

Chelsea went four points clear at the top least week only to see that lead cut-short when Manchester United grabbed a midweek win against West Ham. Manchester City were dropped out of the cup midweek by a resilient Stoke City and will be hoping to bounce back to aide their fight for fourth.

The pressure has been on City boss Mancini recently but with Chelsea struggling in Europe and with big FA Cup and Champions League games to concentrate on, this could be a could chance for Manchester City to take advantage and a great opportunity for Mancini to force people to take notice. Star ‘keeper Petr Cech has also been ruled out for a month with an injury, and with the vast array of striking talent that Manchester City have on offer they could use that to their advantage.

Prediction:

The odds are certainly in Chelsea’s favor for this game but I think the pressure of the midweek European game and the loss of Cech may just get to them. I wouldn’t go as far to say that Manchester City will beat them, but I do think this one will be a hard fought draw.

Stoke v Arsenal

Stoke will be feeling confident after their Cup performance but they may also be tired. Arsenal weren’t involved in the Cup and have a break until they play in the Champions League. Arsenal do still have a few injuries to contend with though, but they need a win if they are to continue on their mission to catch Man Utd and Chelsea.

Prediction:

This is a hard one to call. Instinct tells me to go for a draw but I think that Arsenal will just nick this one. It will be a hard game and Stoke should come close, but the Gunners will surely have it in the bag.

Tottenham v Everton

Both of these teams have found their form recently with Spurs finally finding some much needed goals. This could be one of the most exciting games of the weekend and will light up Sunday afternoon for every football fan in the country

Prediction:

Both sides will come close to winning this but I think they will settle for a score-draw after watching the match swing both ways.

Liverpool v Blackburn

Blackburn have found a good vein of form recently and will be no pushovers for Liverpool on Sunday. Liverpool have advanced in the Europa League and have also found their feet in the league again, putting on a strong show for that illusive fourth spot. All eyes will be on superstar Fernando Torres for this match, if he plays then he could change everything, the Spanish striker has the world at his feet and at his best he can single handedly win the game for Liverpool.

Prediction:

If Torres starts then look for him to score the first goal and get the ball rolling here. If he does start I expect Liverpool to cruise and win by two or three goals, if he doesn’t start then they should still win, although it will be by a smaller margin.

Other games – Predictions:

Birmingham v Wigan –

This is a tough one and one I really don’t want to call but I will. If Wigan show up they can cause Birmingham problems and should be able to force a draw, but Birmingham have been solid this season and may just nick this 1-0 or 2-0.

Bolton v Wolverhampton –

Another tough one to call but this one should also go the way of the home team. Wolves haven’t been very impressive this season whilst Bolton have put in some great performances at The Reebok. Look for Kevin Davies or Matthew Taylor to open the scoring here and expect a good winning margin from Bolton.

Burnley v Portsmouth –

Burnley haven’t exactly been great this season but Portsmouth are the disaster story of the Premiership. This game will be played one day after they officially go into administration and will be doomed. The players could see that as a sign that they really need to wake up, start playing and do something special for this team, but they are not The Mighty Ducks, this is not Hollywood and Footballers are all about the pay-cheques.

Expect Burnley to dominate. Fletcher may nick the first goal but Eagles could be the key for them.

Sunderland v Fulham –

Fulham have just enjoyed success in the Europa League after knocking after the Champions. They will be on a high here and as Sunderland are on a poor run of form they should be able to turn them over. Fulham haven’t been great away from home this season but they should win here.

Good luck!
