Tuesdays League Games: Portsmouth 1-2 Birmingham, Sunderland 4-0 Bolton

soccer

My tips went a little astray tonight with two very different Premiership games. One which was a spot on prediction, the other was well off the mark.

Portsmouth played Birmingham for the second time in a few days and this time it was a league meeting. I correctly picked Pompy to win the cup tie and tonight I scored again when Birmingham won the league tie.

Sky Bet were offering a tasty 7/4 for this Birmingham win which came courtesy of Cameron Jerome who bagged two goals on the night. Benitiz put him through for his first on fifteen minutes before the pair linked up again as Jerome latched onto a neat Benitiz flick to slip in a second before half time.

Kanu nicked a consolation goal for Pompy on the final minute when he headed in from an O’Hara cross but Birmingham were never in any real danger of losing this.

Sunderland hosted in-form Bolton in the other game of the night and a big shock was on the cards. The home team were the slightly favorites to win but their horrible form and lack of goals had turned me away from them and forced me to tip Bolton – how wrong could I have been.

In the first thirty-seconds of play Fraizer Campbell struck a close range volley into the net to give Sunderland a lead which they held onto until the final half hour. Star striker Bent then took control for the home side slamming a shot in after the hour mark, tucking away a penalty with fifteen minutes to go and then finishing off a sweet hat trick with just two minutes to play.

Ricketts also saw red for Bolton who were thumped 4-0 by a lively Sunderland side that I didn’t know existed. Great performance by them.
