Manchester City completed the signing of former Arsenal and Inter Milan Midfielder Patrick Vieira after finalizing a deal which sees him move to Eastlands on an initial six-month contract.

The 33 year old powerhouse becomes the first player to be signed by Italian boss Roberto Mancini who was “delighted” to secure the services of the French international. “Patrick is a world class midfielder with a winner’s mentality and will fit into this group very well” Mancini told the clubs official website (www.mcfc.co.uk) this morning “I am sure City fans will welcome him warmly and appreciate the contribution he will make”.

Vieira is best known for his nine year spell at Arsenal (1996 – 2005) where he captained the side to three Premier League titles and four FA Cup successes whilst helping the French national team to victory in both the World Cup and the European Championship. In 2005 the time game for him to move on when an Pounds 18 Million from Italy attracted the attention of boss Arsene Wenger, and Vieira parted ways with the Gunners after a total of 407 games.

After a short and unsuccessful stint at Juventus – during the 2006 Calciopoli scandal – he found himself back to his winning ways with Internazionale, collecting a further three league titles.

City fans will be hoping that Vieira still has what it takes to make it in the Premier League as the blue half of Manchester looks to establish itself as a top four team.
