Hull 1-2 Arsenal; Poor Gunners Lucky Against Ten Man Hull City

soccer

Arsenal were hoping to continue their title fight today when they played away to Hull.

Things started well for the Gunners when, with just over ten minutes played, they opened the scoring. Arshavin took the ball on the edge of the box from Bendtner, broke through the middle of two defenders and then flicked the ball past the Goalkeeper with the outside of his right foot.

Just before the hour mark Sol Campbell fouled in the area and was lucky not to see red for his challenge before Bullard stepped up to convert the penalty and put Hull level. Hull captain Boatang was then shown a second yellow before halftime as the excitement in this game grew.

After the red card it appeared that this game was only going to go one way, with the question being “by how much” rather than anything else. But in the second half Arsenal just couldn’t score. Bendtner and Arshavin blasted plenty of chances wide and over as Hull looked to hold onto what would be an amazing draw for them.

The spirit of the Tigers continued but three minutes into stoppage time their hearts were broken when Denilson forced the ‘keeper into a save, Myhill pushed the ball straight into the feet of Bendtner who stuck Arsenal into the lead; giving them the win here. A late escape for Arsenal and for Bendtner who had both been terrible here
