Golden Boy Promotions Scores a Home Run

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya has scored another home run with the WBA Lightweight World Championship Fight between Richar Abril 17-3-1[8knockouts] and Sharif Bogere 23-0[15 knockouts]. The fight card will be this coming Saturday at The Hard Rock Joint and will be televised on Showtime.

Richar Abril, originally from Cuba, who is now fighting out of Miami stated, “Thank God for this opportunity and my health. I’m not a runner and I will knock out Sharif Bogere.”

He concluded, “I respect Sharif, he’s got a-lot of skills and he’s fast, but he’s the lion and I’m the tiger. The real king of the jungle is the tiger.” Sharif, a captain of the Ugandan national team and five time African champion as an amateur, is focusing on the record of Ayub Kalule, Kassim Ouma, John Mugabi, and Corelius Boza-Edwards as a professional champion.

Abril, a boxer since he was a kid won his first professional bout title. Less than two months later, Abril added another belt to his trophy case, stopping Miguel Munguia in five rounds for the vacant WBA Federation title. But that’s not all. After defending that title against Julio Camano[W11] and stopping Sergio Rivera, Abril won the interim WBA world championship on October 22 ND, 2011.

Another exciting fight will include Undefeated Featherweight Gary Russell Jr.21-0[13knockouts] taking on Russia’s Vyacheiav Gusev 21-0-0 [13 knockouts] There are also some preliminary fights. Doors will open at 2:30pm with tickets starting at $25.00.
