The Real Legacy of Barack Obama

The American electorate should think twice when Hillary Clinton says she will be the third term of Obama’s presidency if elected. Is that such a good thing?

There are only four-months left of Obama’s two terms as president. If not for the most hateful and tawdry presidential election in memory, the focus would be on what this current president has left as his legacy to American history. The mainstream media won’t enlighten Americans, but here are the facts.

The two themes of the first African-American president in history are collapsing. On the domestic front, it is the train wreck known as the Affordable Care Act, or more familiarly, Obamacare. Abroad it is America’s radical departure from our place on the world stage as the protector of freedom; disengagement marked by weak diplomacy and multilateralism.

Obama-Clinton Obamacare Mess

Obamacare has seen the major impact of socialized medicine on the average American consumer. Small business and hardworking employees often working 60-hours-per-week have seen their health premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half.

The program’s entire economic structure is crumbling before our eyes as half the major co-ops have gone bankrupt and major health insurers like Aetna and United Healthcare have lost hundreds of millions of dollars.

The original foundation of private sector health providers are withdrawing from the exchanges. The crisis has grown so deep that one-third of the U.S. exchanges have only one insurance provider. Meanwhile, premiums and deductibles are hitting the stratosphere.

There was no business plan to foresee that young people would balk at paying disproportionately to subsidize the elderly and sick. They are not signing up and they do have a point. The risk pool vital to any insurance structure is increasingly unbalanced. Like so many government plans this massive, the only solution is massive infusions of tax money; and that is just a temporary Band-Aid.

Obama-Clinton Foreign Policy Mess

The president’s foreign policy policies were based on American power moving toward a world ruled by universal norms, mutual obligation, international law and multilateral institutions. This country would firmly sit out any regional conflicts with the assumption the local involvement would be a solution. There was need to prompt anti-American anger in the Middle East; close Guantanamo Bay military prison. America would be above it all and be the higher moral plane of diplomacy.

The entire concept died in the invisible line in Aleppo, Syria. It came as no surprise, it was predictable and going to happen within the two terms of Barack Obama. His policy of disengagement from the world stage produced Crimea, the South China Sea, the rise of the Islamic State, the return of Iran. Then came Aleppo.

It was predicated by a host of concessions to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Obama was well aware, or should have been, of the Russian’s obsession to protect the genocidal regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Putin’s contempt for our president wouldn’t stop there.

Russia’s so-called cease fires were routinely violated with an air war of unmitigated brutality towards innocent civilians who died by the thousands. Bombing targets included hospitals, water pumping stations and a humanitarian aid convoy.

Hillary Clinton, preceded an equally inept John Kerry who could not admit to the American people and say Putin was only interested in domination and conquest of the Syrian state for his own territorial thirst that never ends during this administration. A reset button presented to Putin’s puppet president in 2009 became the joke of diplomatic circles.

Obama was left with zero options. The president could have acted during the early months of the civil war by bombing Assad’s airfields and destroying his out-front planes and military equipment. We could have controlled the air and prevented the tragedy to come.

Now we have allowed Russia to be there, and be there with a permanent footprint and a smile on Putin’s face as the American president chooses appeasement to US military superiority which is the one thing a strong-armed dictator like Putin respects. Meanwhile, five years into the conflict, Putin has installed S-300 antiaircraft missiles near Tartus. He only power on earth that can stop all this is the American military.

Obama, like British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain with his Munich Agreement with German Dictator Adolph Hitler did nothing but wave the paper of cease fire agreements that meant nothing. “Peace in our time” was Chamberlain’s happy announcement returning to England only to see Hitler start WWII a year later, forcing Chamberlain’s resignation.

History will show that Crimea was an aberration on the Obama view of the world, Aleppo was an utter calamity of Obama’s leadership. There is no healthy fear of the United States in a hostile world. We are viewed as an ally who may run from the crisis and bury its face in the sand of failed diplomacy and empty threats.

Obama has a legacy?

Who is defending it, this cynical appeasement in foreign policy and domestic mayhem? The utter collapse of the two themes of Obama’s presidency is on this year’s ballot and it is Hillary Rodham Clinton. If the American media was doing their job and presenting the facts of the last eight years, the “third-term” of Obama would be 15 points behind, even if her opponent was Donald Duck.
