The Barack Obamas can now be called multi-millionaires in the aftermath of his eight-year stint in the White House. A piece of that Obama history can now be purchased for a mere $17.75 million on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. It was the estate the first couple rented for a few weeks in summer 2013.
According to the listing on Sotheby’s, the stunning 7,000 square foot “presidential paradise,” known as the Chilmark House, boasts six bedrooms and five full baths on nine-and-a-half wooded acres with beachfront views. That is quite a different world from community organizing in Chicago those many years ago.
Situated 120 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, the Chilmark House features panoramic ocean views, oak and limestone floors, oversized wood burning fireplaces, skylights and a top-of-the-line kitchen, Sotheby’s notes. In addition, a private gym, two-bedroom guest cottage, and three private beach lots accessible by boat add to the home’s luxury.
Other amenities include a heated infinity pool, screened porch, outdoor terraces, and half-basketball court. Listing photos of the living room feature a black-and-white photograph of the former President and First Lady back in 1996. That is thrown in with the deal.
You will have to act fast however. According to Sotheby’s propaganda hyping the property, potential buyers are falling over each other to buy it. Of course it will require millions of dollars.
The Chilmark House is being sold by Chicago-based Obama supporters David and Patricia Schulte, who have knocked $4.75 million off the initial asking price since 2015. It appears the Schulte’s are the charitable kind of people, according to Town & Country.
Obama History
The Obamas often summered at the estate during his presidency. They frolicked with star-studded residents. The purchase of the property will not deter Barack and Michelle. With their newly found wealth as book authors and other activities, they have amassed their own fair share of expensive homes.
They purchased a mansion in the Kalorama neighborhood of DC last year, and they’re reportedly checking out apartments on New York’s Upper East Side. There are reports they wanted their own “cottage” on Martha’s Vineyard, but in August, but that was denied by one of their surrogates.
It’s amazing what a career in government can offer. The Obamas are now worth hundreds of millions working for the people. That endeavor has parlayed into a lifestyle few American taxpayers will ever dream of.
