Nude Demonstrators Protest Sexism – Banned from Facebook

FEMEN is a small but active group of women mostly in The Ukraine who got together to protest sex tourism and sex trafficking in their country. To make certain they get press coverage some members often march or hold protest signs naked from the waist up.

On the 30th of March, 2011 at 12:45 PM they made a personal appeal on their web site

“Mark! Let FEMEN in!”

Presumably directed to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg the pose shown in the image emphasizes the “see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil” concept which is at heart the essence of all censorship.

“Supporters of the motion FEMEN not come to terms with the recent closure of the group on Facebook and actively create an alternative page. In particular, recently, a group of Belgian students created a new movement fanpeydzh FIST (FEMEN International Support Team), devoted to the issues of Internet censorship. Russian web designers are working on banners dedicated to countering Facebook and FEMEN. Movement FEMEN invite all friends from previous page go to the new http://www.facebook.com/pages/FIST-Movement/191686997533228” (Auto translation via the Google Chrome browser.)

(Author’s translation: “Supporters of the FEMEN movement have not come to terms with the group’s rejection by facebook and they have created an alternate page. A Belgian group has created a fan group, FIST (FEMEN International Support Team), devoted to the issues of Internet censorship. Russian web designers are working on banners dedicated to countering facebook and FEMEN. The FEMEN movement invites all facebook visitors from their older page to go to the new page.”)

Facebook’s “moral” stand against this group because they often march bare breasted would have more weight as a simple anti-pornography stand if Facebook didn’t also routinely censor images of mothers breastfeeding their own babies – something which is protected in public by laws in many states.

For the time being there is a Facebook site for the FEMEN International Support Team at http://www.facebook.com/pages/FIST-Movement/191686997533228

Newsblaze (along with many other online and print organizations, including CNN) has carried earlier stories on FEMEN protests which have every appearance of being a very serious organization with highly respectable goals and highly specific political targets.
