Many laws have bad sections, and it has been getting worse, as lawmakers cram in so many things they don’t think through.
This can easily be seen in Obamacare with its many loopholes. That partly explains why this so-called Affordable Care Act law is such a catastrophe for the American people and specifically those who it is supposed to help – the who are insured through it.
The healthcare disaster act is so onerous for many people that they are forced into playing games to survive. Last week, a top health official revealed that many people hold off getting insurance until they have a catastrophic illness that requires expensive care. Then, they use the late enrollment periods to enroll.
People have discovered this is one way they can beat the system, which they can’t afford to be part of, even though the Democrat politicians called it the “Affordable Care Act.” They simply drop coverage altogether, then they use the “grace period” for payment, which drives up costs for everyone, according to a report by Politico.
The anonymous health official said the Obama administration will be targeting fraudulent customers who try to play “these shell games.”
At a J.P. Morgan healthcare conference in San Francisco, the acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Andy Slavitt, said “There are some special enrollment periods that we need to clarify because they’re subject frankly to abuse. There may be bad actors and others out there who are abusing those.”
The wide-ranging law allows for many possibilities such as handling people who change jobs or relocate. Those events in someone’s life forces them to change their insurance, and apparently more than 900,000 people sign up for coverage outside the standard enrollment season. Most of these signups are done without proof they are eligible.
According to the Politico report, when latecomers run up higher medical bills, and then drop their Obamacare coverage, that causes financial losses and helps to push up premiums for everyone in double-digit increases.
Insurance companies involved in Obamacare also say people who exploit the three-month “grace period” receive subsidized coverage even after they stop paying for it.
A story in The Wall Street Journal reports that Slavitt, the health administrator, told his audience at the J.P. Morgan healthcare conference that there is now an enforcement task force investigating to ensure people are being honest. Apparently this group will cut off coverage for those insured that didn’t have legitimate reasons for enrolling outside the deadline.
Big Brother is watching, and he has a big stick!
There are likely to be other loopholes, and the administration’s answer is to increase its tyranny over the population.
