US Vows To Help North Korea Rebuild Economy in Exchange For Denuclearization

President Trump and Kim Jong-un are set to meet for a historic summit on June 13, 2018 at Singapore.

US Ready To Help North Korea ‘Prosper’

America has always been ready to help countries prosper in economic terms. This is also true about North Korea which has been slammed by sanctions for its notorious nuclear proliferation. Both nations have been exchanging heated words for sometime now. But this year, the US and North Korea are making history as President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong-un agreed to meet for the first time.

Prior to the US-Summit which is set to happen on June 12 in Singapore, the US pledged to help North Korea rebuild its economy. But many asked what is at stake for this commitment to reach out to a long-time adversary?

The answer is, total denuclearization of North Korea will be the key to end the suffering of millions of North Koreans who are tormented by poverty, hunger and food insecurity.

This news was confirmed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who said the United States vowed to help North Korea.

If Chairman Kim chooses the right path, there is a future brimming with peace and prosperity for the North Korean people,” he told reporters on Friday.

If North Korea takes bold action to quickly denuclearize, the United States is prepared to work with North Korea to achieve prosperity on a par with our South Korean friends.

The Historic US-North Korean Summit

The world is waiting for the historic meeting of President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un in the coming days. Surely, it’s the meeting that the entire world will be watching. It is finally set on June 12, 2018. In addition, the venue for the historic summit will be in Singapore.

Prior to the announcement, speculation started to surface if the meeting will be set in the demilitarised zone separating South Korea and North Korea.

Media sources say South Korean President Moon Jae-In has convinced Kim to hold his upcoming meeting with Trump at the demilitarised zone or DMZ.

The sources reportedly say that there is a “strong possibility” the summit will be held at the site. One reason to consider the DMZ is that media facilities and equipment are already in place there.

The famous Demilitarized Zone separates the two Koreas. It was where Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in met Friday for their historic summit.

Food Insecurity in North Korea

Sixteen million people suffer from chronic food insecurity in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Reports say nearly a third of children under age 5 show signs of undernourishment, particularly in rural areas where food is scarce.

North Korea is not producing enough food to feed its 24 million people, and relies on limited purchases of food as well as outside donations to make up the shortfall. Around two million people in the country’s most food insecure areas are currently receiving nutritious food assistance from outside donations.
