US Deplores ‘Senseless’ Murder of Northern Ireland Prison Officer

With the recent murder of David Black, an officer in the Northern Ireland Prison Service, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton today expressed condemnation of the senseless murder of the prison officer.

In her remarks at Washington DC today, Ms. Clinton applauds the swift efforts of the Police Service of Northern Ireland to bring the perpetrators to justice.

She offers her sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Black.

The United States remains resolute in support of the people of Northern Ireland, who have condemned violence and embraced the path to peace and reconciliation, Ms. Clinton added.

Black had served more than 30 years’ with the Prison Service. He was gunned down during a high-speed ambush on a motorway as he drove to work.
