MODESTO, CA – In honor of Corporal Ronil Singh, who was fatally shot in the line of duty last week, UNITED SIKHS will present special Karas to his family members and fellow officers of the Newman Police Department. The presentations will be made at funeral services to be held at CrossPoint Community Church on Jan. 5. The Karas will contain his name and badge number.

Police Officer Ronil Singh
Cpl. Ronil Singh, a legal immigrant to the US, who always wanted to become a police officer, was killed by an illegal immigrant.
“Corporal Singh had a heart of gold, he made a positive impact on everyone he encountered and had an infectious, kind, spirited and humble attitude on life. His service to humanity made all Sikhs proud,” said Jesse Singh, United Sikhs Executive Director. “In honoring our fallen brother, we encourage the local community to help support the Newman Police Department and Corporal Singh’s family during this difficult time.”
A Kara is one of the five external articles of faith that identify a Sikh. It symbolizes eternity, reminding Sikhs that God has no beginning or end.
United Sikhs Collecting Messages of Support
In addition to the dedicated Karas, the non-profit is collecting messages of support for Cpl. Singh’s family on behalf of the global Sikh community. Messages can be posted directly on the tribute to Cpl. Singh via the UNITED SIKHS Facebook page (@UNITEDSIKHS.org), which will be shared with Singh’s family at his funeral on Jan. 5.

All donations made to UNITED SIKHS in Cpl. Singh’s name will also be directed to the Stanislaus County Sworn Deputies Association’s fund.
As reported by authorities, Cpl. Singh was fatally shot on Dec. 26 just before 1 a.m. after he pulled over a suspected drunk driver. The suspect has since been arrested and charged with murder.
Originally from Fiji, Cpl. Singh, age 33, had been with the Newman Police Dept. since July 2011. He previously worked at the Merced County Sheriff’s Dept. He is survived by his wife and a 5-month-old son.
