Food Bank Helps Almost 800 Families

Christmas will be brighter for almost 800 families in and around Folsom, California, because of the Twin Lakes Food Bank and their volunteers who offered good cheer, big smiles, a friendly word and bags of groceries.

The Twin Lakes Food Bank helps the less fortunate throughout the year, and runs special events at Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Back To School.

In 2008 the Food Bank, with help from the community served 26,995 Individuals, distributing 382 Easter Ham dinners, 453 Children’s Easter Baskets, 611 Thanksgiving Baskets, and in conjunction with the Folsom P.D., 638 Christmas Baskets.

The Food Bank’s “Back to School” program outfitted 494 Students with a new pair of shoes, a package of new socks, a new back pack, school supplies, a dental kit and a bag of nutritious food through the Raley’s “Food for Families” program.

In 2009, 600 Children’s Easter Baskets, 611 Thanksgiving Turkeys, and almost 800 Christmas packages were supplied.

Food Bank Volunteer, Dianne told NewsBlaze “We’re helping people who don’t have much food, or who are in need. They will come in and get a bag of groceries and some children from church and other places are here to help them go around and get it to their cars. We want them all to have a nice Christmas with a turkey and all the trimmings.”

In one building, thanks to Raleys, the gocery team managed the food, and in another building, the toy team, including Folsom Police CAPS Volunteers, managed the toys.
