Florida Governor Rick Scott on Open Carry and Campus Carry bills – Where is He?

Where is Rick Scott on Florida’s Open Carry and Campus Carry bills?

Has he said anything in private to two key Republican Senators: Senator Diaz de la Portilla, Judiciary Chairman, and his boss, Senate President Gardiner? He certainly hasn’t said anything to them in public.

They are refusing to let the current Campus Carry bill, SB 68, see the light of day, and are threatening to water-down the Open Carry bill, SB 300, with “restrictions” so that it will be as weak and useless as possible.

What is motivating these Republican Senators to act like liberty hating Democrats when it comes to our human right of self-defense? Perhaps it’s because they’ve been enjoying some support from Democrats in their districts? If so, it makes one wonder how Sen. Gardiner ever got his appointment to Senate President by a largely Republican Senate.

When will Gov. Scott step up to the plate and take the leadership role he was elected to, in order to help get these good and needed laws passed? That is a legitimate function of his executive role.

In fact, he’s collaborated before with Florida’s General Assembly to get desired legislation passed:

“As I mentioned earlier, I am very proud of the work the legislature and my office have done together to turn Florida’s economy around. I am very excited to have heard from President Gardiner and Speaker Crisafulli both of whom share my goal to cut taxes again in the upcoming session. Working together, I know we can give Floridians back more of the hard-earned money they have made by turning our economy around and ensure that Florida continues to out-pace the nation and even take first place in job creation,” said Gov. Scott [FLgov.vom].

I assume that the physical safety of his citizens is just as important to him as the well-being of their pocketbooks. I suppose we’ll have to see by his actions whether or not this is a priority for him.
