Jill Kelley’s attorney Abbe Lowell is trying to put the lid back on the bottle; the only problem is, genie is already out of her bottle (Barbara Eden) and ready to serve her master (Larry Hagman). As such, we still don’t know the content of as many as 1,000 emails exchanged between Jill Kelley and General John Allen, and other exchanges. Abbe Lowell has released some of these emails, but not all of them. Some of the emails have been characterized as flirtatious, going so far as terming them as phone sex.
Yet, we ought to ask, who on the inside has given these emails such a characterization? What was mentioned in the emails that would tend to make them seem flirtatious, or possibly even an extension of this? Perhaps we’ll never know. The stakes are rather high; this Pentagon investigation has to clear General John Allen of any ethical breaches, or even an appearance of such breaches, before he can be appointed as NATO’s supreme allied commander in Europe. The bar is very high indeed!
What is troubling to me, is the sheer volume of emails, as many as 1,000? Could that be right? What information between Kelley and Allen was needed to be shared? That’s what I don’t get. When you’re composing an email, you’re creating a document (which may be important, but may not be also), and once you hit send it can get in the wrong hands. This is what it looks like happened here; the emails landed on Jill Kelley’s computer, which was the exact one it need not land on.
Alright, so maybe the number is lower than 1,000; yet, what was Allen attempting to communicate to Kelley, that was so important to repeat again and again? This makes no sense. If, however, he felt something towards Jill, this would explain better why he would repeat this process over and over again. Was he bored with his duties of commanding in Afghanistan? Was he looking forward to another of Jill’s parties when he returned to MacDill Air Force Base? Speculation true, but something was pushing Allen’s button, not nothing.
The whole David Petraeus scandal, including its hundreds of twisting tributaries, is a little crazy. It’s no different with this ‘clear her name’ campaign, initiated by Jill Kelley’s attorney, Abbe Lowell. He claims she was just an innocent party, who exposed the real culprit (Paula Broadwell); Jill was simply a fall girl (you might say), after Paula had sent her many threatening emails. Yet, one must ask, why was Paula suspicious of Kelley, in her dealings with General Petraeus? She must have learned something, but what was it?
Well, we have to admit, Abbe Lowell has his work cut out for him, in putting the genie back in the bottle. One of those aforementioned muddy tributaries is the situation with Adam Victor and an agreement that was to be struck with South Korea in a coal gasification deal put together with Korean firms bidding for the contract, such as Samsung, Hyundai, GS, or GK. That is, Jill Kelley would use her connections as an honorary consul to South Korea to forge the deal for Adam Victor. But as of Tuesday, she was stripped of her consulship, because of the Petraeus scandal.
I better study up on this tangled web of misbegotten contacts and miscommunications, because it’s not too hard to get confused and frustrated. But from the outside looking in, it looks like some basically normal human beings, some with major national power, let their defenses down, and followed their ID, not their Superegos. Lowell’s attempt to repair the damage done to Jill Kelley’s image will probably backfire on him, and make the entire fiasco play out all over again. The SLN writers are probably pecking away at their computers right now!
