A series of bomb attacks targeting Shiite worshippers across Iraq has killed 30 people and wounded dozens of civilians.
The recent attack took place near the town of Dujail where two car bombs exploded near Shiite temple in the city of Samarra.
Reports say at least 11 were killed in the attack and over 60 wounded.
The other attack also targeting worshipers in the holy Shiite city of Kerbala has killed 12 people and wounded dozens of civilians.
In Washington DC today, Department Spokesperson Victoria Nuland
says the United States strongly condemns the terrorist attack on innocent worshipers today in northern Iraq.
“The United States stands with the Iraqi people and will continue to support the Government of Iraq, both against terrorist groups and to promote a religiously tolerant and diverse country.” – Ms. Nuland
She says as demonstrated last month, these terrorists are willing to target all Iraqis, regardless of their religion or ethnicity, and expressly undermine the will of the Iraqi people who overwhelmingly support stability and security.
The US expresses its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.
Ms. Nuland notes US government will do its utmost to help the Government of Iraq as it works to bring to justice those behind these horrific and heinous acts.
In March 2012, a series of deadly bomb attacks in a number of Iraqi cities have claimed the lives of more than 40 people and injured many others.
Media reports indicated that a series of coordinated bomb blasts went off in over a dozen cities and towns, including the capital, Baghdad, as well as Karbala, Kirkuk, Falluja and Mosul, killing more than 40 people and wounding scores of others.
The deadly bombings coincideed with the ninth anniversary of the US invasion and days before the nation hosts a meeting of Arab leaders.
Reports say that some of them targeted police or government facilities.
The attacks on some Iraqi cities come nine years to the day since a U.S.-led army invaded Iraq on 20th of March 2003 which had ousted notorious dictator Saddam Hussein.
In December 2006, Saddam Hussein, the man who brought suffering to many Arabs, has been executed in a secret location in a northern Baghdad suburb, Khademiya.
