Breast cancer survivor, Aly Shanks, will share her experience, strength, and hope as she discusses her fight against breast cancer. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

In Touch Massage & Day Spa announced today its first annual Crop for the Cure event to be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 in conjunction with the spa’s 10-year anniversary celebration. This twelve-hour scrapbooking crop-a-thon is being put on to increase awareness about breast cancer, honor those affected by the disease and to raise money to find a cure.

“Many women that I love have suffered from breast cancer,” Shannah Tenner, In Touch Massage & Day Spa owner said. “I think it’s important that we learn as much as we can about this disease so that our mothers, daughters and sisters can get the medical support they need.”

This one-day event will be held from 10AM – 10PM and includes 12 hours of scrapbooking, a six-foot individual workspace, brunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, dessert, prizes, gifts, around the clock $1 chair massages from In Touch’s licensed and trained therapists and a licensed nail technician will be on-site performing manicures for $20 and pedicures for $30. Half of the earnings from both the nail technician and massage therapists will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Breast cancer survivor, Aly Shanks, will speak to the group about her own ongoing fight against breast cancer. In the afternoon a local sommelier will be pouring complimentary wine for tasting. The cost of the event is $50 per person with a donation goal for each individual to raise $200 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation through pledges. Space is limited to 20 participants.

It is estimated that 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer will occur among women in the U.S. during 2009. Many women do not learn much about good breast health unless they breastfeed or have had a problem that needs medical attention. Becoming familiar with breast anatomy can help women detect changes in their breasts that may or may not be cancerous. Tumors in the breast tend to grow slowly. By the time a lump is large enough to feel, it may have been growing for as long as 10 years. However, some tumors can be aggressive and grow much more quickly.

Crop for the Cure is being held Saturday, November 14, 2009 at In Touch Massage & Day Spa in Thousand Oaks. Treasured Memories and Cafe Sportif have teamed up with In Touch to co-sponsor the event. Treasured Memories will be donating gifts and prizes and Cafe Sportif is donating all meals, snacks, and drinks. Proceeds raised will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
