Lack of Infection Control At Same Day Surgery Centers

State inspectors went to 68 centers in Oklahoma, Maryland and North Carolina. The study pointed-out that 67 percent of the centers that performed esophagus and colonoscopies examinations, had at least one infection problem- 57 percent had deficiencies.

The centers didn’t wash their hands, wear gloves and clean blood glucose meters per a new federal study.

The findings in Wednesday’s Journal of the American Medical Association suggest the care-free anti-infection habits could be practiced by the over 5,000 out-patient centers according to experts.

State inspectors showed-up at centers without warning, or didn’t let centers know they were coming ahead of time.

Staff members were told when inspectors arrived. The study didn’t examine whether or not the loose practices resulted in patients being infected.
