Four Primary Types of CBD Products

CBD is all the rage these days, as it promises to be an effective form of treatment for a wide range of ailments. Despite the fact the FDA has only approved CBD to treat two rare forms of epilepsy, consumers are using it to treat all kinds of medical conditions, ranging from chronic pain to anxiety.

While many people are familiar with the term CBD, which is short for Cannabidiol, most are not aware that it is available in a variety of forms. Here are the four primary types of CBD products.

CBD Oral Drops

This CBD product is exactly what it sounds like and is CBD in liquid form. CBD oral drops are either ingested or taken sublingually, or under the tongue. Taking the drops sublingually allows the compound in the CBD oil to be absorbed into the mucous membranes, which will then bypass the digestive system and the liver and go directly into the bloodstream.

When taken sublingually, the liquid should be held under the tongue for about 90 seconds. This gives the mucous membranes the best chance at absorbing the cannabinoid compounds.

CBD for Vaping

CBD oil can also be inhaled, which is usually only recommended for adults with vaping experience. The advantage of vaping CBD is that it goes directly into the lungs, bypasses the liver, and gets absorbed into the bloodstream quickly.

Some consider vaping to be the most efficient delivery system for CBD and that results are achieved quickly by using this method.

CBD Cream for Topical Application

CBD cream is used when local pain relief is needed. CBD cream quickly absorbs into the skin without entering the bloodstream. This type of CBD is most commonly applied to the temples, neck, wrists, soles of the feet, shoulders, and any of the joints.

It’s recommended to clean the area of the skin before the topical is applied and to be generous and vigorous while applying the cream. It’s also always best to wash the hands afterward.

CBD Edibles

CBD comes in a variety of different forms so that it can be ingested. Some of the edible forms that CBD comes in includes capsules, gummies, tinctures, chocolate bars, and honey. When CBD is ingested, it passes through the digestive system and gets metabolized by the liver. It then sends its active compounds into the bloodstream.

It’s important to check with a healthcare provider before using any type of CBD product.
