Does Steven Powell’s Perversion Connect to a Missing Susan Powell?

“And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made. And the sign flashed out its warning, In the words that it was forming. And the sign said, ‘the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls,’ and whispered in the sounds of silence.” The Sound of Silence Simon & Garfunkel

Stops and starts. Stops and starts. Not writer’s block, but rather inadequacy in my capacity to fully fathom the complexities of both developments from the past two years and the latest allegations of voyeurism. Internal boomerangs of the mind can freeze your temporal lobes to icicles of muddlement!

I comprehend each of the unique slices of information, but when I try to put it all together my mind splinters into fractals flying through space like meteorites destined to zap Triassic dinosaurs with electromagnetically-charged particles of liquidation. A slide-show first flashed forth 50 million years ago.

I apologize for morphing to pseudo-science fiction, in place of (or disguising) an actual news story, but this is the only angle that’s making any sense for me (creative outbursts of excogitation). Leave it to The Salt Lake Tribune to fry the eggs plainly over easy and to toast the hash to a crispy golden brown.

In spite of my sparkling bottle rockets of amalgamation (efforts to synthesize a myriad of missing links that plague this investigation), the real question at hand is: what’s the connection, if any, between the off-the-map behavior of Steve and the hazy disappearance of Susan Powell nearly two years ago?

But my intuition tells me this has to be wrong. Denise Cox, Susan’s older sister, believes that both Josh and Steve were involved in what I readily term a ‘crime of silencing by elimination.’

Denise was aware that Steve had made sexual advances on Susan some time ago. Chuck was aware of this also, and advised his daughter to call the police, but she never did so.

Another person who knew precisely what had happened between Steve and Susan was Kiirsi Hellewell, Susan’s best friend in Utah. Susan had rejected her father-in-law’s advances; she let many who were close to her know about this unsavory reality.

Another person who is connecting the dots of intrigue, is Jennifer Graves, Steve’s estranged daughter. Jennifer’s perspective digs underneath some of the buckets of dirt, since she knows all the parties so well, that make up the cast of characters. It must be hard to admit your own father went down the tubes, such as he did.

“I think it’s despicable. I’ve known for a long time that my dad had issues. Now we’re learning Josh Powell is not the only person of interest in his wife’s disappearance, though police will not say who that other person is.”

Attempts to unravel this mystery come only with considerable difficulty. But here’s a good supposition for you, did Steve believe that Susan was about to go to the cops with some of this grizzly graft? A high probability!

If Josh tipped Steve off to these dramatic possibilities, then Steve may have put a plan of connivance into place, with he and Josh as the primary players in acts of villainy. A scheduled hush-up, planned with the precision of a CIA operation, is now in place.

I’ve often wondered why Josh and his two boys moved back to Washington, to live with his father, so soon after Susan vanishes from the face of the earth?

If you are buying my previously mentioned (tightly bonded collusion between father and son) theory of wife/daughter-in-law eradication, then it only makes sense that Josh would move back in with Steve to smooth out obvious wrinkles in their cover-up.

And that’s exactly what they were doing last month, with the barrage of high-profile media appearances, promulgating a negative spin on Susan’s journal, and the Switch-A-Roo image projections of Susan as a Coquettish Mistress Quickly of loose morals, that plays off husband and father as if they’re mavericks worthy of equal promiscuous palpitation (pitter patter).

The duo of Powells did a credible job of smearing Susan’s name in a public forum. We now realize this was utter propaganda. With these far-fetched fabrications of propaganda in the back of your mind, one wonders tremendously why Steve would leave behind thousands of these voyeuristic photographs on various hard drives of his home computers?

Did he not suspect that the cops could get a warrant to confiscate items from his house? One is cognizant, however, that in order to conceal so much incriminating digital evidence, it would be necessary to have the computers crushed to (smithereens) down to the size of a silver dime, such as a car was crushed by OddJob in the James Bond film, Goldfinger!

And then I can’t help but ask the question how could Steve prowl around his neighborhood (as a peeping Tom) for ten years or more with a fancy camera, and nobody notices anything out of place or odd about this?

Inconceivable! Steve must have employed methods of concealment that are comparable to the CIA, when taking out a tyrant in Central America (in the ’50s).

Did Josh know that his father was doing these sleazy things? I suspect he did. Did he know that his dad was taking illicit pix of his actual wife, Susan? The affirmative on that question also. Did Josh endorse this sickness, this perversion?

Are we getting anywhere yet? Yes, we’ve travelled quite a ways. Susan’s name has been vindicated. Steve is behind bars (possibly, for a considerable time). And what about the charred remains found out near Topaz Mountain?

They’re on to something there! DNA tests will tell, but I’m convinced that is all that remains of Dear Susan. Why did I choose the lyrics of The Sound of Silence to introduce my flighty, slipshod article? *(Don’t want to use one of Steve’s songs, you see.)

“Hello darkness, my old friend. I’ve come to talk with you again. Because a vision softly creeping, Left its seeds while I was sleeping. And the vision that was planted in my brain, still remains, within the sound of silence.”
