As a precaution, Bolton furniture announced a recall of dressers that may cause injury or death to children, stated the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recall includes dressers that are extremely unstable when not properly anchored to the wall. The top heavy dressers can easily tip if a child crawls or climbs onto them, either crushing or entrapping the child beneath it, according to the commission.
The dressers do not comply with current US voluntary industry standards, the commission said.
Although, no injuries have been reported, the company is voluntarily asking customers to immediately stop using the recalled product that is not properly secured to the wall and place it in an area where children do not have access.
The company stresses that the dresser should not be used without be properly anchored to the wall.
The company had sold up to a thousand of the defective dressers in different several models. They would include Cambridge 8614, Essex 8314, Essex 6614, Woodridge 8414 and Wakefield 8014. The defective dressers were sold in cherry, espresso, Ivory, natural and white. The dresser style and model number are located on a QC/production sticker on the back of the dresser.
The dressers were available at retailers nationwide including, Full Line Furniture and children’s specialty furniture stores and online at Amazon.com, Target.com, Overstock.com, Wayfair.com, ToysRUs.com and other online stores beginning in February 2011 to October of 2016 and they sold for around $700.
The dressers which tend to be top heavy can be fully rectified with a retrofit kit which includes an anchoring strap and hardware to fully secure the dresser to the bedroom wall.
They should contact Bolton Furniture for a free retrofit kit which will rectify the problem. The retrofit kit or anchoring strap is sold with the dressers, or contact the company who will provide a one-time, free installation of the anchor strap.
