Washington Pretends To Serve The People But Instead Gives Away Liberty

Washington seems to be playing the same old song again. Sounds like Bugs Bunny, “What’s up Doc?”

What’s up is the same old political wrangling that got us into this crisis to begin with. To spend or not to spend, that is the question.

If I sound a little outraged it is because I am outraged at Washington.

While the White House was spending money and the debt kept escalating, our illustrious leaders in Congress gave themselves a raise and in reality flipped off the American people. Then the President told the people living on SSI they have to forgo a cost of living increase because everyone should share the burden of our recession. I’m sure most retired people are glad to share the burden of this recession; but Holy Cow Aunt Betsy, who except the people are suffering? Not Congress and not the President who spends more money on vacations than he makes for being President. Well howdy doody, people. Does this make everyone feel comfortable about both the President and Congress?

Think we will forget this in 2012? I have grave doubts about the American people anymore after the 2008 elections.

James Madison expressed it this way:

“No theoretical checks, no form of government, can render us secure. To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people is a chimerical idea. If there be sufficient virtue and intelligence in the community, it will be exercised in the selection of these men; so that we do not depend on their virtue, or put confidence in our rulers, but in the people who are to choose them.”

When the people fear their government there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

– Thomas Jefferson

Maybe we should adopt the following as the XXVIII Amendment to the Constitution.

Amendment 28

Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.

I pray every night the American people will come to a reality check and see where we are headed.

The passion of men of honest and intelligence values hope for this nation. “Good men encourage everyone and every person to study the Constitution and its principles and awaken this sleeping and apathetic people to the alarming condition that has come upon the United State of America.”

Those are not my words, but they certainly express the fact very well. I paraphrased this person’s comments for the enlightenment of those who read this article.

Our society has come to a critical point. We must recognize this and forget our pocket books and how much money we need and understand there maybe not be a U.S.A. tomorrow, at least not the one we know, unless things change drastically. This nation is under a great debt that is going to take years to pay back. How can we continue to borrow and spend and stay alive?

Honestly, I don’t believe we can. The ship isn’t sinking but it has taken a full torpedo broadside and we will soon be listing if the right action is not taken soon.

The time for us to change is right now. Not tomorrow but today. Just realize we have power and need to write our Senator and Congress and give them our concern. Put the weight right where it belongs. Write the President if he reads anything from the people unless it is about a poor soul who needs health care. Health Care is a very touchy subject and I will never make bad comments about anyone who is in poor health and needs attention and has not the funds to pay for such service.

I know we live in a very affluent society and some don’t have health care. I also know there are ways for people who need health attention to get help. We as society need to realize our responsibility to help others and understand it is not always the ill people’s fault they are down and out financially. A health care system like Canada or England is not the answer.

Playing Robin Hood by robbing the rich and giving it to the poor is not the answer. I’m not rich but still isn’t the answer.

We have in our society so many entitlements that it is just not realistic to expect the government to pay for everything. This attitude is what got us to this problem to begin with. Our government is not God and we as people in this nation should not expect our prayers to be answered by thinking it is god.

A government that acts under pretense to help the poor and supports such programs that give away the liberty of others is not really in the best interest of the people.

Thomas Jefferson stated, “If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them, they must become happy.”

Okay America where do we go from here?
