Peril to The Nepali Democracy

The terrorist declared NCP Maoists, which has adopted a totalitarian ideology, has developed an alliance with the seven parties in agitation and launched a nationwide “decisive” strike and blockade for an indefinite period. They have said that they will not break the strike unless they achieve “total democracy”.

Ian Martin, residential representative of the Office of the Human Rights Commission, seems to be more close to the UML and the terrorist declared Maoists, due to many reasons. For example, he makes a hue and cry if the government security force violates any human rights, but he becomes very soft when the Maoists violate the rights of the people. It seems, he is the spokesman of the Maoists and UML rather than a responsible officer receiving salary from the United Nations.

There are many, many human rights organizations funded by western INGOs. They represent the Maoists than the human rights of the general people. Just last week, several local leaders of Panchthar were abducted by the Maoists.

Likewise, in Sarlahi, the Maoists abducted about two dozen security personnel including CDO. Abduction of those civilian is totally against the individual right of citizen. But what are the human right activists doing for rescuing them?

Britain and some Scandinavian countries are also totally supporting the destabilizing forces here. India is showing double standards and her interest is to make Nepal ultimately a republic state as she knows how the leaders can be bought for her interests. India is not concerned about democracy, nevertheless, she wishes to see a puppet government here. If India was concerned about democracy, she would not have supported the only dictatorial monarchy in Asia, Bhutan. The Americans seem to be confused from the Indian briefing based on disinformation.

The international community clearly witnessed the unholy alliance between the terrorists and the seven parties. The first day of the nationwide strike, Thursday, didn’t go peacefully, as the mob was involved in destructive activities in many places. If they were allowed to enter the city area in the capital, perhaps, RNAC, Gorkhapatra Corporation, any many other government undertakings would have been destroyed, like in the past, creating an uncontrollable situation.

The Maoist leaders Prachanda and Baburam issued a joint statement stating that they have actively supported the seven-party agitation and the government has arrested Maoist cadres infiltrated in the agitation creating violence. In Gangabu, Chitwan and Dhangadi the agitators opened fire. Is this a peaceful agitation then? Isn’t the statement of Prachanda and Baburam enough to understand their attitude?

Whether the international community has understood or not, it is clear that the seven parties have been used by the Maoists for their cause, and their aim is not a multiparty democracy but developing base for COMPASA in the South Asian region.

Even if India underestimates this intensifying of the Maoist strength in the region, she will too face a serious threat to her “largest democracy” sooner or later.

Finally, on one thing, the international community should be clear that discarding polls and trying to grasp power through street demonstration and vandalism is not a real democratic practice. In a democracy, political parties should also act as per the democratic practice otherwise we cannot achieve real democracy.

Americans are talking about democratic government. But how? By restoring the erstwhile dissolved parliament or by constituting a new parliament through fresh polls? Americans should make it clear. Let’s hope, we will see the flourishing of Nepalese democracy in a proper way and not in a wrong manner like this. We hope, the international community realizes the ground reality and support the efforts for democracy and lasting peace in Nepal.
