Democrats Resort to Their Own Dirty Tricks

Taking Predictions to Heart

Those who thought this would be the nastiest presidential campaign in history were right on the mark. The problem is, one side is taking that prediction more to heart.

If you repeat a lie enough times, the people will grow to believe it.

The Obama re-election campaign is taking this sort of ideology to new lengths. Their obsession with Mitt Romney and his days at Bain Capital is becoming reprehensible and a clear signal they do not plan to address any pertinent issues of Obama’s term as president.

Liberal Mouthpiece

The presidents’ deputy campaign manager claiming that Securities and Exchange Commission documents about Mitt Romney’s role with Bain Capital should prompt a criminal investigation, has been fact checked by none other than the liberal mouthpiece, The Washington Post.

The most recent attacks were prompted by an article in the liberal Boston Globe that SEC filings “appeared to show Romney was active in Bain Capital after he left to run the Salt Lake City Olympics.”

This is apparently important to Obama’s spin doctors due to investments initiated at Bain between the years 1999 and 2002 which Romney claims he was not involved in the company.

So what was the conclusion of a liberal mouthpiece for Obama – The Washington Post?

“Romney and Bain claim that he was not involved with Bain, but Bain and its portfolio companies in their required filings under the Securities Exchange Act continuously certified to the Securities and Exchange Commission say precisely the opposite – asserting without qualification that he was a controlling person, fully in charge of Bain, under the Federal securities law. Under normal circumstances, the question of the truth of this representation would result in an investigation by the SEC into possible criminal, as well as civil, violations of the law,” Robert Bauer, Obama’s campaign counsel, said, according to the Post.

Here’s the kicker from the Washington Post: “We did not see much new in the Globe article.” They go on to say:

“We had examined many SEC documents related to Romney and Bain in January, and concluded that much of the language saying Romney was ‘sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president’ was boilerplate that did not reveal whether he was actually managing Bain at the time.”

For instance, there is no standard definition of a ‘chief executive,’ securities law experts say, and there is no requirement for anyone to have any responsibilities even if they have that title.

But that was not good enough for Obama’s campaign staff that suggested that one way or another, Romney had committed a felony.

Securities law experts speaking with the Post flatly said executive titles listed in the aforementioned documents were “basically meaningless, that someone can be listed as a chief executive and actually have no responsibilities whatsoever.”

Just Another Day of Political Strategy

That didn’t stop the captains of disinformation from loudly proclaiming a major scandal and filling the front pages of newspapers across the country with their revelations and political poison. Just another day of political strategy at Obama re-election headquarters in Chicago.

The Post conceded “there is gray area about Romney’s involvement with Bain in the 1999-2002 period,” but – and here’s the kicker, “the 2002 Massachusetts Ballot Law Commission report that certified that Romney could run for governor concluded that Romney ended his work at Bain in 1999.”

And further, “The weight of evidence suggests that Romney did in fact end active management of Bain in 1999. He stated that in a federal disclosure form he signed, under threat of criminal penalties. He said he was a ‘former employee’ in a state disclosure form. A state commission concluded 10 years ago that he did, indeed, leave Bain in 1999. Investors in Bain funds were told he was not part of the management team.”

When will voters begin to see the tactics being used here? Repeat a lie enough times and the people will believe it.

“It’s The Economy Stupid”

Like the 1992 Clinton campaign had their slogan of “It’s the economy stupid” to focus the campaign staff, is this the real focus of Obama’s – distortion of the truth to stay away from his record as president?

Don’t talk about the economy stupid.
