Crossfire War – RApid Fire News=Tehran – Baghdad – Ankara Watch – West Asia – European Theatre: Reports Reveal Iran Has Possessed Blueprints for Nuclear Warheads – Guided Missile Systems for More than Ten Years – Tehran Withdraws $75 Billion from European Banks for Security Reasons – Banks Located at Ground Zero – Iraq Army Deploys Troops in More Cities – Taliban Seize Eight Villages

Night Watch: BERN – Reports are now revealing what crossfirewar.com has been saying all along, that the Iranian government has long been producing warheads for their ballistic missiles, especially the medium range (1,250 miles) Shahab-3 for quite some time. This has been done mostly with massive assistance from Beijing because they knew if Iran’s offensive foreign policy was successful then three of China’s international rivals would become weaker, the West-India-Russia. Therefore Beijing established the nuclear weapons, ballistic missile technology network which easily used North Korea and Pakistan to ship the technology to Iran. Debka is now reporting May 22 Swiss President Pascal Couchepin stated an order was given to destroy 30,000 documents that detailed centrifuge plans for nuclear weaponry, gas centrifuges for enrichment of weapons grade uranium and guided missile systems. The action was part of a criminal case against the Swiss Tinner family of three engineers, a father, Friedrich and two sons, who had long been an integral part of the nuclear network established by the Pakistan government through their leading scientists Dr. Abdul Qadeem Khan. The father’s connections to Khan actually goes back decades. [DEBKA]

May 30 it was disclosed blueprints for the weapons and guided missile systems were sold to the nuclear network in the last half of the 1990s which is just ten years after Iran re-activated its nuclear weapons program in 1986. Sunday, former United Nations weapons inspector, David Albright stated during his investigation into Iran’s weapons programs the material being distributed and purchased contained “previously undisclosed designs for a compact warhead that could fit on an Iranian medium-range ballistic missile.” There is a small nuclear warhead, I believe is designated W-88, which can be used on warheads for shorter range missiles and this is probably quite similar to the nuclear capable missile warheads Pakistan has been test firing for years. It is even suspected Beijing may have placed such a warhead on the 50-60 CSS-2 medium range missiles (2,500 miles/4,000 km) sold to Saudi Arabia in the mid-1980s. Smaller nuclear warheads can even be used on cruise missiles and torpedoes.

Governments in the West have probably known this all along but would not say so publicly since it would risk causing a panic. Fortunately not all the bombs and missiles are going to work since the technology involved is so intricate and fragile and therefore prone to malfunction. Some of course will work but I would guess at best only a third will be reliable, no matter which industrial service or government manufactured them.

Tehran – Since the Iranian government, especially its Defense Ministry is mainly targeting Western Europe they have just had Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, Mohsen Talaie issue this terse statement, “Part of Iran’s assets in European banks have been converted to gold and shares and another part has been transferred to Asian banks.” Asian banks (China) of course are not located in countries targeted by Iran’s nuclear missiles and that may have been the real reason a Foreign Ministry official from China was in Tehran last week. Asharq al-Awsat/Reuters report the announcement was reported by the Iranian weekly Shahrvand-e-Emrouz that also contained this quote from Talaie, “About $75 billion of Iran’s foreign assets which were under threat of being blocked were wired back to Iran based on Ahmadinejad’s order.” President Ahmadinejad was acting on advice from the country’s defense establishment. [ASHARQALAWSAT]

Though the Shahab-3’s range is only 1,250 miles and cannot reach Western Europe from Iran, an Iranian missile expert disappeared into Turkey in February 2007 (cfw=Feb. 28-07). It was former General Alireza Asqhari who had been Deputy Defense Minister from 1997-2005 when the warheads were being produced as I assume they still are. It has even been admitted by a general in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards not all of Iran’s missiles are in Iran and launched from Turkey all of Western Europe could be hit by the Shahab-3. Ankara is what I sometimes call a secret partner in Tehran’s foreign policy.

Al Amarah – “Our military forces…have completed their deployment to ensure control of the whole city.” That was the announcement by Iraq Army Deputy Chief of Staff Nasir al-Abadi on the preparations being made to disarm Shia militia units in the city of Al Amarah (Amara) 185 miles southeast of the capital and just forty miles from the Iranian border. Swissinfo/Reuters report the city is at the center of Iran’s arm smuggling network to Shia groups like the 60,000 members of the Mahdi Army headed by cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. It is now being reported Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has also deployed Iraq Army units in Baghdad, near one of the main bases of the Mahdi Army and also in Basra while al-Maliki continues their efforts in Mosul against Sunni militia groups working with al-Qaeda – Iran. This stretches the Iraq Army along some very thin lines which is exactly what Tehran wants, as if Iran’s own military has drawn up al-Maliki’s battle plan. [SWISSINFO]

As mentioned yesterday this is just one week after the Defense Ministers of Iraq-Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on military cooperation and their mutual strategy seems to be to have the Iraq Army heavily engaged all over the country and call in support from U. S. ground – air forces to trap Washington into some heavy fighting. While at the same time there will be more reports of Iranian arms smuggled into Iraq which will call for demands – ultimatums from Washington and when those demands are not met then the Pentagon attacks the military bases in Iran involved in the weapons supplies to Shia-Sunni militias, and war between the U. S./Iran will become (f)allout. Recently military-religious leaders in Iran have stated they are ready.

Arghandab – Al Jazeera reports the Taliban has first seized eight, now ten villages in the Arghandab district of Kandahar province just 18 miles (30 km) north of Kandahar city which was the Taliban’s capital when they controlled the country. Al Jazeera correspondent Hashem Ahelbarra said hundreds of Taliban fighters are taking up positions in the area and are taking control over other villages. Local tribal leader Haji Ikramullah Khan observed, “It is quite close to Khandahar. During the Russian war, the Russians didn’t even occupy Arghandab, because when they fought here they suffered big casualties.” Since NATO blindly continues to funnel troops into the country they are obliged to confront any emergence or re-emergence of Taliban activity. NATO spokesman Mark Laity stated NATO-Afghan military will be redeploying troops in the area to “meet any potential threats.” [ALJAZEERA]

When the Taliban were first overthrown in 2001 Tehran stated they found some of them useful and this is obviously their mission, to keep the West-NATO chasing the Taliban all over the country and therefore too busy to attack Iran.
