New York’s Mayor Bloomberg is at it again!
Before we get ahead of ourselves, I want you to give some thought to a quote attributed to the late Johnnie Cochran, the defense attorney who was a part of the “Dream Team” that successfully defended OJ at the infamous murder trial. At the trial, one of Cochran’s memorable quotes was, “If you cannot trust the messenger, you cannot trust the message!”
Bear that in mind as you read the balance of my commentary today.
Michael Bloomberg is the mayor of New York who manipulated the system to run for a third term in office even though a 15 year old New York City law limited New York City mayors to a two term limit.
Incredibly, a New York Times article that appeared in the NYC newspaper back on November 30, 2008 bore the following headline: *”Bloomberg Expected to Seek Third Term as Mayor”* Here is a link to that article:

This is certainly “old news” but it just illustrates how this guy is grammatically challenged! Clearly he is only able to conjugate verbs in the first person singular!
Here is a quote from that article that demonstrates Mr. Bloomberg’s unmitigated chutzpah and incredible egocentricity:
Mr. Bloomberg, whose second term ends in 2009, is barred by law from running for re-election. So he will propose revising the city’s 15-year-old term limits law, which restricts him and dozens of other elected leaders to two four-year terms, those people said.
In his appearance on Thursday, they said, Mr. Bloomberg, a former Wall Street trader and the founder of a billion-dollar financial data firm, will argue that the worldwide financial crisis with its potentially severe impact on New York City demands his steady hand and business experience.
The decision to challenge the term limits law, which was twice approved by New York voters, represents a remarkable about-face for Mr. Bloomberg. He has repeatedly said he supports such constraints on elected leaders, dismissed the idea that anyone is indispensable, and once called an effort to revise the limits “disgusting.”
People briefed on the matter said Mr. Bloomberg, 66, would seek to change the law through legislation in the City Council. His staff is envisioning an unusual bill that would apply only to those currently in office, allowing them to serve three terms instead of two. A permanent change would require voter approval, these people said.
Now you need to consider just how determined he was to get his way and satisfy his ego- consider this brief paragraph from the very same article:
And, according to a person who has advised the mayor in the past, he “does not care what it costs” to win a third term. In 2005, Mr. Bloomberg, a billionaire, spent more than $70 million and won nearly 60 percent of the vote.
Go back and re-read that sentence above- Bloomberg spent more than $70 million dollars to take a job that did not enrich his bank account but did satisfy his gargantuan ego, yet where profit is concerned, he will do whatever it takes!
Bloomberg is the guy who also told reporters that he did not believe that anyone else should be able to serve as mayor of the Big Apple for more than two terms!
He does not care about the laws or those who he tramples in his headlong rampage to achieve his goals.
Of course he may be right that we have to import smart people because he was actually elected to that third term as mayor! I would love to know what idiots voted for him!
He is apparently convinced that he can simply utter declarations and the masses will somehow accept them!

Bloomberg also urged Congress to eliminate the cap on the number of H-1B visas that are issued to foreign workers with specialty skills who work as scientists, engineers and computer programs. There’s a cap of 85,000 H-1B visas issued annually. “This is just absurd to deny American workers access to the workers they need,” he said. “Let the markets work.”
And he said that the U.S. should eliminate caps on the number of visas issued to residents of each country. As it stands, a maximum of 7 percent of the employment-based visas each year can go to residents of any single country. As a result, highly-skilled workers from populous countries like China and India may face a more difficult time getting the visas than residents of smaller nations.
Last week, several Indian media outlets reported an uptick in the number of rejected visa applications of Indian technology workers, prompting the country’s commerce minister to call for a more streamlined process. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and House Judiciary Chair Lamar Smith (R-Tex.) last week introduced a bill to eliminate the caps on visas by country.
Bloomberg also reiterated a controversial proposal he’s made in the past. To help improve industrial cities that are decline, the federal government could offer full citizenship to immigrants who agree to live in a designated city for seven years and are willing to forgo any federal, state and local subsidies.
“You would fill each of those cities overnight,” Bloomberg told the audience at the Chamber. Immigrants would buy and improve homes, demand better schools and create businesses, the mayor argued. “Nobody could argue they’re coming here to scam the system.”
The economic development spurred by immigrants would help existing residents find jobs, and the industries immigrants create would replace those that have died off, Bloomberg argued.
Let’s take another look at this outrageous lie attributed to New York’s mayor:

Check out this video of a segment of Lou Dobbs Tonight that aired on November 15, 2007 and dealt with the issue of H1B visas and made it clear that there is no shortage of American engineers, computer programmers and others with graduate degrees in the high tech industries.

What will really infuriate you is the video of an immigration lawyers’ conference in which lawyers were being coached to “*not find qualified U.S. workers*!” The lecturer who is instructing the attorneys is a guy by the name of Lawrence M. Lebowitz, the Vice President of Marketing for the firm of Cohen & Grigsby. This video was posted on You Tube by the Programmer Guild, an organization that is comprised of computer programmers.

There have also been a succession of GAO and OIG reports about massive levels of fraud permeating the immigration benefits program but to Bloomberg this is clearly not an issue. Nor is it an issue that immigration fraud and visa fraud were identified as being utilized by the majority of terrorists who were identified as operating in the United States in the decade leading up to the terrorist attacks committed against our nation (including New York City which bore the brunt of those attacks) on September 11, 2001!
Bloomberg should adopt a new motto, “Don’t confuse me with the facts!”
Furthermore, our country is struggling through an economic crisis that was largely caused by unbridled greed of the bankers and Wall Streeters (Bloomberg’s playmates) yet New York’s mayor insists on importing unlimited numbers of foreign high tech workers at a time when millions of hard working American workers have lost their jobs!
It is amazing that while Bloomberg all but demands that unlimited numbers of aliens be admitted into the United States, causing all sorts of problems including issues relating to overcrowded schools and emergency rooms, etc., etc., Bloomberg recently made a “full court press” to impose “Congestion Pricing” on residents of the City of New York who might want to drive their cars into Midtown Manhattan and charge them a premium because of our already congested streets and roads!
Wow!
Bloomberg wants to create a nightmare and then charge us for it!
Tony Soprano has nothing on New York’s Mayor! This is the sort of “reasoning” that the mob uses when they charge businesses for “protection!” The business pays the goons of organized crime money every week so that the crooks won’t throw bricks through their windows!
Bloomberg’s outrageous pronouncements sound as though they could have been written by Alan Greenspan, arguably the architect of America’s economic crisis.
Unbelievably, on April 30, 2009, Senator Chuck Schumer, the senior senator from New York, conducted a hearing before the Senate Immigration Subcommittee that he chairs, in which he called for none other than Alan Greenspan to testify about Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Greenspan actually made the following remarks as a part of his prepared testimony at that hearing:
The quantity of temporary H-1B visas issued each year is far too small to meet the need, especially in the near future as the economy copes with the forthcoming retirement wave of skilled baby boomers. As Bill Gates, the chairman of Microsoft, succinctly testified before Congress in March 2007, “America will find it infinitely more difficult to maintain its technological leadership if it shuts out the very people who are most able to help us compete.” He added that we are “driving away the world’s best and brightest precisely when we need them most.”
Our skill shortage, I trust, will ultimately be resolved through reform of our primary and secondary education systems. But, at best, that will take many years. An accelerated influx of highly skilled immigrants would bridge that gap and, moreover, carry with it two significant bonuses.
First, skilled workers and their families form new households. They will, of necessity, move into vacant housing units, the current glut of which is depressing prices of American homes. And, of course, house price declines are a major factor in mortgage foreclosures and the plunge in value of the vast quantity of U.S. mortgage-backed securities that has contributed substantially to the disabling of our banking system.*
The second bonus would address the increasing concentration of income in this country. Greatly expanding our quotas for the highly skilled would lower wage premiums of skilled over lesser skilled. Skill shortages in America exist because we are shielding our skilled labor force from world competition. Quotas have been substituted for the wage pricing mechanism. In the process, we have created privileged elite whose incomes are being supported at noncompetitively high levels by immigration quotas on skilled professionals. Eliminating such restrictions would reduce at least some of our income inequality.
How closely did his statements parallel what Bloomberg had to say?
Greenspan’s use of language was apparently intended to be as obfuscating as possible but here is the bottom line- if Americans had to compete with foreign workers for their jobs, the salaries that skilled workers were paid could be slashed! This is absolutely the sort of thing that the immigration and labor laws are supposed to prevent!
Greenspan also linked a massive influx of immigrants to increasing the value of real estate- something also alluded to by Bloomberg!
Do not take my word for it, take Mr. Geenspan’s words for it!

Time and time again the point is made, especially by the open borders advocates whom I have come to refer to as the “Immigration Anarchists,” that we are a “Nation of immigrants” and that the “Immigrants built this country.”
What truly distinguished the United States from every other country in the history of this planet is the large and upwardly mobile Middle Class.
Go back and read what Mr. Greenspan is recommending- he is recommending that America’s Middle Class be put on display in the Exhibit Hall of American Museum of Natural History of New York! Perhaps Mr. Bloomberg will spend some of his wealth on sponsoring the construction of that exhibit paying tribute to the passing of the Middle Class that he would be responsible for causing to go extinct!
The last word on Bloomberg’s assertions has to go to a mayor from a different U.S. city with a very different position, who also furnished the final sentence for the article below:
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has previously said that idea “doesn’t make a lot of sense.”
A country without secure borders can no more stand than can a house without walls!
If our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the “American Dream” the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!
We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm’s way in defense of this nation and our citizens.
My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.
The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.
If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same. We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”
The practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.
The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!
The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians. I implore you to get involved!
I believe our nation’s is greatly benefited by the rich diversity of our people which is why I could never imagine living anywhere except New York City, arguably the most diverse city in our nation if not, in fact, the world. However, my idea of diversity most certainly does not include members of MS-13, the Mexican drug cartels or members of other transnational gangs or members of al-Qaeda!
If our government’s failures to secure our nation’s borders and effectively enforce our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!
All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!
We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.
This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!
You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!
Democracy is not a spectator sport!
