Drug battle in Mexico continues to rage
If the Obama Justice Department thought winning the legal challenge against Arizona’s tough law against illegal immigration would solve anything, activity at the state level suggests more legal challenges are ahead.
Nearly half of the states are planning to pass tough immigration laws of their own.
Americans for Legal Immigration, or ALIPAC, has put together a list of 22 states that are considering legislation that involves variations of Arizona’s S.B.1070:
Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tenneessee, Texas, Utah
The battle over illegal immigration is advancing at the state level, despite the decision of U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton that struck several key provisions of Arizona law S.B.1070 last month.

In Mexico, an anonymous blogger who hides his identity has become a major source of front-line information on Mexico’s violent drug war.
Operating BlogDelNarco.com in Spanish, the Mexican anonymous blogger has become a major source of vivid information on the gun battles, assassinations and general lawlessness that threatens to turn Mexico into a drug cartel-controlled nation.
One story reported on BlogDelNarco.com involved three men, including a Mexican federal policeman, who were shot dead in their navy-blue Ford Mercury.
Their bodies were found after an anonymous caller reported the incident to the local police around 7:30 p.m. on the evening of the killing.
One body was found in the open trunk, while the other two were found lying on the ground behind the vehicle.
All three bodies showed signs of violence, with the two found on the ground having been shot in the face, apparently by AK47 gunfire.
According to information gathered by local authorities investigating the incident, it was reported that the federal agent was on vacation, returning from his brother’s wedding.

The visual photo and video images on BlogDelNarco.com are typically vivid and disturbing, with acts of violence and corpses resulting from Mexico’s drug war shown from real life, without editing.
Visiting the website is not encouraged for children or adults easily disturbed by real life displays of graphic violence.
Mexican Drug Cartels Winning Drug War
U.S. intelligence has concluded that Mexico’s most powerful gang cartel now controls the drug trafficking routes through Ciudad Juarez, effectively winning a two-year war in which more than 5,000 Mexicans were killed, the Washington Times reported.
The Sinaloa Cartel is Mexico’s largest, and the nexus between Ciudad Juarez in Mexico and El Paso in Texas are one of the key entry points for drugs into the United States.
Last week, U.S./Mexican border sources admitted the Mexican drug cartels have placed a $250,000 bounty for the kidnapping or killing U.S. Border Patrol agents, as reported by the Examiner.
Merida Initiative Fails
In late July, the General Accountability Office issued a scathing report charging that the Obama administration has neglected to set standards to assess whether the $1.6 billion spent to fund the so-called Merida Initiative has been effective training and equipping Mexico’s military to fight the drug cartels.
The key GAO complaint was that the Obama administration has not laid out clear performance objectives against which the State Department can determine if Merida Initiative spending has been effective in achieving program goals.
“Without targets to strive toward, State [the State Department] cannot determine if it is meeting expectations under the Merida Initiative,” the GAO wrote.
“For instance, State’s performance indicators measure the number of Mexican law enforcement officials trained under Merida, but did not measure the impact of the training and if it has been successfully employed,” the GAO noted on Page 23.
“Nearly three years and $1.6 billion after the announcement of the Merida Initiative, our counternarcotics assistance to Mexico and Central America lacks fundamental measures of success,” Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, said in a press release.
As Mexico’s drug war threatens to turn Mexico into a lawless, drug cartel-controlled nation, the obvious answer is that the Merida Initiative has been a waste of taxpayer money.
The Department of Justice National Drug Intelligence Center, or NDIC, reported in its National Drug Threat Assessment 2009 that Mexican drug cartels are “the greatest drug trafficking threat to the United States,” reporting that Mexican drug cartels now distribute drugs in 230 U.S. cities.
