US Supports Objectives of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change

Counselor for Economic and Social Affairs Explanation Courtney Nemroff today stressed that the United States supports the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

“In these final days before the important climate talks in Durban, the United States is pleased to join consensus on the resolution “Protection of global climate for present and future generations of humankind.” -Mr. Nemroff

He stressed that Climate change is a global challenge that demands a global solution. He said it is not just about the limitation of carbon emissions, but also the pursuit of sustainable economic development with low-carbon economies.

He emphasized that the United States supports the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and will continue to do so through our voluntary contributions.

“However, we wish to reaffirm the principle that the UN regular budget should not be used to subsidize independent and self-sustaining treaty bodies and conventions such as the UNFCCC.” -Mr. Nemroff
