Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter

Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter is a dark, comedic odyssey. Academy Award nominee Rinko Kikuchi, known for Babel, Pacific Rim, stars as Kumiko.

Kumiko is a frustrated office lady. Her imagination extends beyond the confines of her mundane life. She becomes obsessed with a mysterious, battered VHS tape of a popular film she mistakes for a documentary. She fixates on a scene where a suitcase of stolen cash is buried in the desolate, frozen landscape of North Dakota. Believing this treasure to be real, she leaves Tokyo to find the treasure.

While 87% of rottentomatoes reviewers liked this film, only 66% of readers did.

While We’re Young

While We’re Young is a comedy by Noah Boaumbach. The stars are Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts, playing Josh and Cornelia, a married New York couple in their mid-forties. Their friends all start having children, do they gravitate to a young hipster couple named Jamie and Darby. Jamie played by Adam Driver is an aspiring documentary filmmaker. Josh is already a documentary maker.

Amanda Seyfried plays Darby. The older couple enjoys the energy they pick up from hanging out with the younger couple, but something isn’t right, and Josh suspects his young friend is not be as trustworthy as he first thought.

131 of 156 Rotten tomatoes critics liked this, but out of more than 15,000 reader ratings, only 55% wanted to see it.

Get Hard

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart head up this comedy from Warner Brothers, but neither the critics nor readers liked it, according to RottenTomatoes. Directed by Etan Cohen, with screenwriting by Ian Roberts and Jay Martel, it revolves around preparation for prison life. A wrongfully convicted investment banker prepares for prison with the help of the guy who washes his car.

With 51% of readers and only 29% of critics liking it, you may need to be a dyed-in-the-wool Will Ferrell fan to get into this one.
