Nine Folsom Lake Community Concert Association board members participated in the Sixth national convention at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville Tennessee. Attending were Margaret Wiemers, Paula Titus, Barbara French, Donna and Don Thomas, Doreen and Steve Mykytyn, and Sandra and Michael Burvant.
This conference showcased national and international talent available for booking in the 2009-2010 concert year. There were twenty four live 15 minute performances from the top groups, selected by Live on Stage, who performed at the Performing Arts Theater at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. The performers all have national and international recognition and performance experience covering categories including Classical, Broadway, Pop/Jazz and Vocals. Live on Stage evaluated several hundred performers before selecting the live concerts. Other groups are also available for booking by viewing their videos, that were prescreened by LOS.
PianaFiddle performed for the opening ceremonies of the LOS convention in Nashville. Adam is a classical violinist with five years performing experience at the Richmond Symphony Orchestra; Lynn Wright is a retired preacher who also played ragtime music for ten years at the legendary Silver Dollar Saloon. They both moved to the hills of Virginia without knowing anyone there, and happened to meet at the local Wal-Mart. Together, they began exploring all musical genres to create traditionally grounded music that exceeds all expectations. They perform at the FLCCA concert on Tuesday, November 11 at the Folsom Community Center.
The FLCCA 2008-2009 season opens on September 2 with Pavlo, followed by The New Christie Minstrels October 19, PianoFiddle November 11, Daniel Narducci, March 15 and Dale Gonyea April 19. Attending the conference were 450 Community Concert Associations representing all states in the United States.
Community Concerts were born out of tough times seventy five years ago, with the aim of bringing national and international talent to perform in local communities. FLCCA is beginning their fourteenth year. As a community organization, FLCCA is a non-profit organization that relies on sponsorships from the community and the patrons of the association to facilitate the presentation of top talent at reasonable prices.
FLCCA is a non-profit volunteer organization, and all attendees from FLCCA paid all their own expenses to attend the Nashville conference. Last year there were six attendees and this year there were nine, several attending two years in a row.
