The Power Of Few, Final Cut Your Way: A Conversation with Star Q’Orianka Kilcher

Arts Express: Young actress Q’Orianka Kilcher has expanded her many talents to producer of the unique film project, Leone Marucci’s The Power Of Few. Best known for her role as Pocahontas in Terrence Malick’s The New World when she was only fourteen and as the legendary Hawaiian royal teen last year in Princess Kauilani, the wise beyond her years twenty-one year old star discusses the genesis of this exciting collective endeavor.

Visitors to the film’s website can submit their own final cuts of this mystery thriller starring Kilcher, Christopher Walken and Christian Slater, with editing tools available at the website. And then vote for the winning final cut. The Power Of Few was filmed in New Orleans, with participation by those devastated communities and including homeless kids and destitute veterans.

Kilcher is also a committed human rights and environmental activist. She’s a featured speaker at many international conferences and events for organizations, including Amnesty International, the IFG (international Forum on Globalization), Amazon Watch IFIP (International Funders for Indigenous Peoples) and The United Nations “Indigenous Peoples: Human Rights, Dignity and Development with Identity, in collaboration with the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Additionally, Amazon Watch, Youth Ambassador Amnesty International (Global Youth Ambassador for Women’s Rights) AIDESEP (Spokesperson and Voice) Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Rainforest Federations), The Community School for the Arts Foundation, Thursdays Child, Turning The Tides, and Save Americas Forrests IDEM (South Dakota Youth Project). She is also the only teen Native American spokesperson ever appointed for The American Literacy Campaign.

Kilcher has worked with the National Endowment For The Arts ‘The Big Read,’ and has participated in the Howard Zinn “The People Speak” series at open community staged readings. And she is in the starring ensemble cast of the “People Speak” Film Series, along with Matt Damon, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and David Straithern.

She has also launched her own youth human rights and environmental organization On-Q initiative. Which connects young Hollywood with youth activist leaders and projects from around the world, in support of environmental sustainability, corporate accountability, basic human rights and universal dignity and compassion. Through her production company, IQ-Films, Kilcher is also producing several cause driven documentaries and youth-programming projects.

Kilcher’s name Q’orianka means ‘Golden Eagle’ in the Peruvian indigenous Quechua language. Her father is a Quechua Peruvian artist, and her cousin is Grammy-nominated singer Jewel Kilcher.
