Adapted from Tatiana de Rosnay’s popular novel, Sarah’s Key candidly explores as well the buried history of French collaboration with the Nazis back then, and what has come to be known as the Vel d’Hiv Roundup of French Jews in 1942.
Paquet-Brenner also comments on the recent trend in similar movies like Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds and Czech filmmaker Marek Najbrt’s Protecktor, that focus on the female experience of the Holocaust.
